ABOUT SATKOSIA
Established in 1976, Satkosia Tiger Reserve is a Wildlife Sanctuary expended along the mighty Mahanandi river in Odisha, India. It was declared the Tiger Reserve after joining two Wildlife Sanctuaries - Satkosia Gorge Sanctuary and Baisipalli Wildlife Sanctuary in 2007.
From having 161 species of Birds, 38 Mammal species, 27 reptile species, 138 species of fish, and 4 Amphibians, Satkosia Tiger Reserve is also having two most notable but Endangered species of freshwater Crocodiles - Gharial and Mugger in reserve. Not only this, but 12 Orchids too have been recorded within the past time along with crabs, mollusks, terrapins, amphibians, and turtles that provide a bio richness with astonishing genetic and ecologically crucial of the sanctuary.
In addition, Reserve contains over 400 plant species, including - 126 trees, 98 shrubs, 125 herbs, and 51 climbers. Saguan, Piasal, Chakunda, Jhaun, and other trees that are beneficial for paper, ayurvedic medicines, and other industrial purposes are in a wide range in the jungle.

Climatic Descriptions at our Locations:
The peak daytime temperature during the summer months is from 45 to 47 degrees Celsius in May and June. With the arrival of the monsoon season, the temperature drops noticeably, and humidity is eventually high in the sanctuaries after the rainfall of 1250mm to 1700mm. Slope accidents are the highest among these times as they are 350 meters high from sea level. The best time to visit is from August to march, as December is the coldest month, when the night temperature usually drops to 6°C.
